What are my options to structure a working arrangement with an interim ED?
The interim ED role can be secured and may be equally effective either as a temporary employee or as a contracted consultant depending on the preferences and available options for each organization and the selected interim executive. As an experienced interim executive, I am open to and have enjoyed success with both options.
What will be the range of fees and expenses for hiring an interim ED?
Most often the expense (or investment) of hiring an interim executive will mirror the cost of the budgeted salary and benefits for the permanent ED position that would have been incurred during the months comprising the transition period.
When should we start the search for the long-term or permanent ED?
Each situation is different and the search process should be determined by the Board through assignment of a Recruitment or Executive Leadership Transition Committee to evaluate the needs, options and make recommendation for approval of the full Board. The interim executive could be utilized to assist the search process if desired.
